The sky is falling- maybe
by joey jojo ini am actually not a 'sky is falling' guy, but i wanted to comment on the australian bushfires.. you may or may not believe the science behind global warming, however i personally put more faith in verified, scientific data than the words of fat cat, self-serving politicians.
climate science has predicted, based on data, that we will see more prolonged, extreme weather events, higher average temperatures, rising sea levels due to ocean expansion and glacial melting.
and this is exactly whats happening.

Ignorance is bliss.
by joey jojo ineveryone's heard this statement before but i only just read the full quote, or proverb, which is taken from a 1742 poem.
it seems fitting to share it.
'thought would destroy their paradise;.

How old is old?
by joey jojo inhaving a conversation with a pimi elder and i asked him how he deals with the fact that he never expected to get old.
i get the feeling that some dubs still have the original generation explanation hard-wired, even though they claim to accept the new version.
so my question is, how old do you have to be to be considered old?

The Zizek Trilemma
by joey jojo ini know it sounds like something from a science fiction novel but its actually an interesting exercise to describe traits of people who live their life under an ideological framework, such as a communist regime or a cult.. there are 3 traits listed which are;.

WT vs The Simpson's
by joey jojo infor an organisation that has made a lot of predictions, the wts does not exactly have an impressive record of getting it right.
its probably impossible to count the number of trees that have been killed and turned into paper pulp for the sake of millions of pages of false prophecies that have been printed.
on the other hand, the cartoon show, the simpson's has accurately predicted some interesting events, years in advance without the death of one tree.

1958 VS 2019 International Covention
by joey jojo inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlkvocpun8w.
2019. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qut4sr9elo.
so many emotional triggers and not much substance in 2019. at least they highlighted a part of a talk from knorr in the 1958 vid, nothing but a lovefest in the 2019 clip.

International conventions and natiionalism
by joey jojo ini have been seeing a few international conventions posted here and on social media.
i can't help but notice what seems like blatant nationalism in terms of dress, greetings, welcome signs.
am i right or have i simply turned into a hyper sensitive loser that is reading too much into things?

Has God broken the Sabbath?
by joey jojo inin the early 80's, i remember a district convention drama that featured the story of the guy that was stoned to death for gathering sticks on the sabbath.
i thought it was kind of harsh because it wasn't like the guy was doing any real work like building anything, or plowing a field.. if we accept that god is perfect, then surely he would set the example of keeping the sabbath in a perfect way.
the word sabbath means inactivity as far as i can tell and this leads me to ask a question about things god has done during his rest day that seem like work to me.. .

Slavery - ancient
by joey jojo ini have been listening to podcasts by dan carlin and his excellent series on persia and the spartans, called king of kings.. its a refreshing way to hear unbiased accounts of history, untainted by religious beliefs.. a part of the podcast dealt with the jews but it put into perspective their place in world history and events.
pretty much just another tribe- sometimes rebellious, allowed to exist under the rule of a major power, allowed to worship their own gods exactly like the other tribes around them.. another part that caught my interest was the account of slavery and it made me think about the way wt and other christian religions have tried to reconcile the idea that it was ok in those days for jews to own slaves because they had laws to protect the slaves.. the podcast made me realise a lot of apologists of slavery obviously forget how a person becomes a slave in the first place.
apologists like wt say it was ok because it was part of the economy and the way life was, which totally skips over the important part.. after a war, when most of the men were killed or wounded on the battlefield by the winning side, whoever was left, men, women and preferably young virgins, were taken back to the homeland of the victors and sold at the slave markets.
